| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Macon County Safe from the Start, a 4-year old |
| 3 |
| coalition dedicated to protecting children from violence, |
| 4 |
| received the 2006 Program Excellence Award for Central Illinois |
| 5 |
| on April 3, 2006 from Prevent Child Abuse Illinois and the |
| 6 |
| Illinois Department of Children and Family Services; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Safe from the Start is a coalition of 24 agencies |
| 8 |
| that receives referrals of children by law enforcement officers |
| 9 |
| at the scene of community or domestic violence or child abuse |
| 10 |
| and provides case management and therapy; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Safe from the Start also conducts prevention |
| 12 |
| training at day cares and schools, raises public awareness |
| 13 |
| about the effects of witnessing violence on children through |
| 14 |
| advertising and public service announcements, and provides |
| 15 |
| professional training through its annual Saving Childhoods |
| 16 |
| conference; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The coalition's newest program is its |
| 18 |
| Neighborhood Crisis Response Team, which goes into |
| 19 |
| neighborhoods following violent incidents to provide |
| 20 |
| information about how trauma affects children and families and |
| 21 |
| to direct people to community agencies if they need further |
| 22 |
| help; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Safe from the Start, based in the Macon County |
| 24 |
| Child Advocacy Center, has a full-time case manager and |
| 25 |
| children's therapist and operates on a budget provided by the |
| 26 |
| Illinois Violence Prevention Authority; therefore, be it
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 29 |
| we congratulate Macon County Safe from the Start on being |
| 30 |
| awarded the 2006 Program Excellence Award for Central Illinois, |
