| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, County fairs play an important role in the rich |
| 3 |
| agricultural history of the State of Illinois; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, As early as 1871, the Illinois legislature |
| 5 |
| realized that funding county fairs helped promote the livestock |
| 6 |
| industry of our State; that year, every county fair in the |
| 7 |
| State of Illinois received $100 to help finance their premiums; |
| 8 |
| and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Today, some 3.3 million fairgoers are entertained |
| 10 |
| and educated yearly during the county fair season; assistance |
| 11 |
| is provided by the Department of Agriculture, from funds |
| 12 |
| allocated by the General Assembly, to county fairs, 4-H fairs, |
| 13 |
| vocational agriculture sectional fairs, and fair and |
| 14 |
| exposition participants; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, The Bureau of County Fairs functions as a |
| 16 |
| regulatory arm of the Department of Agriculture; within this |
| 17 |
| function, constant auditing of all reports from the fairs is |
| 18 |
| performed, along with regulating and enforcing of all rules and |
| 19 |
| regulations of the Department, in compliance with statutes of |
| 20 |
| the State; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, In FY2006, there were 105 agricultural and |
| 22 |
| industrial fairs held in Illinois, with an estimated attendance |
| 23 |
| of 3,320,948 and 375,199 entries; and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, County fairs are the bonding of youth and elderly, |
| 25 |
| the rural and the urban dwellers, the business man and their |
| 26 |
| customers; they are a symbol of agriculture that cannot be |
| 27 |
| outsourced to another country; therefore, be it
|
