| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, On April 20-23, 2006, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, |
| 3 |
| Inc., will host its Great Lakes Regional Conference at the |
| 4 |
| Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza in downtown Chicago; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity was founded at |
| 6 |
| Howard University in Washington, D.C., on January 9, 1914, by |
| 7 |
| three young, African-American, male students, celebrated as |
| 8 |
| the Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, |
| 9 |
| and the Honorable Charles I. Brown; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, From its inception, the Founders conceived Phi |
| 11 |
| Beta Sigma as a mechanism to deliver services to the general |
| 12 |
| community, rather than gaining skills to be utilized |
| 13 |
| exclusively for themselves and their immediate families; this |
| 14 |
| deep conviction is mirrored in the Fraternity's motto, "Culture |
| 15 |
| For Service and Service For Humanity"; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma is the only historically |
| 17 |
| African-American fraternity to be constitutionally bound to a |
| 18 |
| sorority, enjoying and fostering a mutually supportive |
| 19 |
| relationship with the women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; |
| 20 |
| and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma has from its very beginning |
| 22 |
| concerned itself with improving the general well-being of |
| 23 |
| minority groups and demonstrates this through partnerships |
| 24 |
| with the March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society, the |
| 25 |
| Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, the National Marrow Donor |
| 26 |
| Program, American Diabetes Research, and St. Jude's Children |
| 27 |
| Research Hospital; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
