| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The City of Silvis is celebrating its 100th year |
| 3 |
| and is commemorating its centennial throughout the year with a |
| 4 |
| number of activities and events; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Village of Silvis, originally named Pleasant |
| 6 |
| Valley, was incorporated in 1906; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The Village took its name from Richard Shippen |
| 8 |
| Silvis, one of the original settlers, whose family operated the |
| 9 |
| Silvis Mining Company; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, In 1920, Silvis became a city with a mayor-council |
| 11 |
| government with 8 councilmen, 2 from each of the city's 4 |
| 12 |
| wards; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, The city has a rich history in the mining, |
| 14 |
| railroad, and foundry industries; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Silvis is truly a "City of Progress" and will |
| 16 |
| continue to grow and prosper for another 100 years; therefore, |
| 17 |
| be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 20 |
| we honor and congratulate the City of Silvis on its centennial; |
| 21 |
| and be it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 23 |
| presented to the Mayor of Silvis as an expression of our best |
| 24 |
| wishes for another 100 years of growth and prosperity.
