| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, In 1955, fire services to Savoy and other rural |
| 3 |
| areas was terminated; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, A few Savoy residents decided to petition for |
| 5 |
| Savoy to incorporate in order to create their own Fire |
| 6 |
| Department; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, After a lot of time spent and hard work done by |
| 8 |
| John Jones and other men, a time was set for the first election |
| 9 |
| to decide if Savoy should incorporate; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, On April 7, 1956, the first election to decide to |
| 11 |
| incorporate was held and won only by one vote; on May 2, 1956, |
| 12 |
| the count was contested and on May 28, 1956, the suit action |
| 13 |
| waited for a second count, but the numbers did not change; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, On May 28, 1956, the Village was officially |
| 15 |
| incorporated; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, On June 3, 1956, the first Board of Trustees of |
| 17 |
| the Village of Savoy was organized; John Jones was elected the |
| 18 |
| first President; the first Trustees were Kenneth Fisher, James |
| 19 |
| Trover, Vernon Brown, James Johnson, Henry Lawson, and Willard |
| 20 |
| Koss; James Corwin was the first Treasurer and Bernard Grussing |
| 21 |
| was the first Clerk; the Village had a yearly budget of $600 |
| 22 |
| covering the period of April 1956 to April 1957; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, The Village has thrived throughout the past 50 |
| 24 |
| years and is now the fourth largest community in Champaign |
| 25 |
| County; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
