| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Louis Jackstadt retired from his position as |
| 3 |
| Collinsville city clerk on April 1, 2006, a position he had |
| 4 |
| held since 1979; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in a house just six blocks from his |
| 6 |
| current residence and is a lifelong resident of the city; he |
| 7 |
| received a parochial education at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic |
| 8 |
| Church and School, where he is still a parishioner, and |
| 9 |
| graduated from Collinsville High School; he received a football |
| 10 |
| scholarship and G.I. Bill to St. Louis University, where he |
| 11 |
| studied political science; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, After serving in the military from 1941 to 1946, |
| 13 |
| Mr. Jackstadt was elected to the Collinsville school board |
| 14 |
| where he served from 1949 to 1951; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He was elected Collinsville mayor at the age of 29 |
| 16 |
| in 1951 and remains the youngest mayor in the history of the |
| 17 |
| city; he served one term as mayor and continued his career in |
| 18 |
| city government; for five years he was on the Board of Fire and |
| 19 |
| Police Commissioners and from 1972 to 1979, he was a city |
| 20 |
| coordinator for a major sewer project; in 1979 he became city |
| 21 |
| clerk; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, Intending to retire in 1995, Mr. Jackstadt was |
| 23 |
| convinced to remain in the position of city clerk on a |
| 24 |
| part-time basis until his retirement; and
|
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, He and his wife, Neva, raised eight children, all |
| 26 |
| of whom have remained close to their roots in Collinsville; |
| 27 |
| therefore, be it
