| WHEREAS, Daniel B. McGrath was recently inducted into the |
| 3 |
| Leo High School Hall of Fame; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath graduated from Leo High School in |
| 5 |
| 1968; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath started writing sports for the Leo |
| 7 |
| High School Oriole and became its sports editor in 1968, and |
| 8 |
| his ambition was to become a professional sports commentator; |
| 9 |
| and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Mr. McGrath |
| 11 |
| attended Marquette University and later worked for The |
| 12 |
| Sacramento Bee and The Philadelphia Inquirer; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath was hired by The Chicago Tribune as |
| 14 |
| Sports Editor in the late 1990s; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, When Leo High School senior Eric Ersery was gunned |
| 16 |
| down while coming home from his job at Burlington Coat Factory, |
| 17 |
| Dan McGrath wrote a series of poignant articles on the horrors |
| 18 |
| of urban violence; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath took the lead in establishing the |
| 20 |
| Cecil McClure Scholarship Fund, by bringing together the best |
| 21 |
| sports writers in America for a benefit that touched off a |
| 22 |
| steady stream of donations to help young men fight back the |
| 23 |
| streets through education; and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath is also an Adjunct Professor of |
| 25 |
| Journalism at Northwestern University and a frequent |
| 26 |
| commentator and moderator on The SCORE and Comcast and WGN |
| 27 |
| Sports Shows; and
|
