| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Rev. Henry |
| 4 |
| Nicholson on the occasion of his 50th anniversary as pastor of |
| 5 |
| Truelight Baptist Church; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Rev. Nicholson is a native of East St. Louis and |
| 7 |
| is a graduate of Lincoln High School; he holds a B.A. from |
| 8 |
| American Baptist College and a divinity degree from Eden |
| 9 |
| Theological Seminary; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He was employed as an instructor in the Theology |
| 11 |
| Department of St. Louis University and authored a book on New |
| 12 |
| Testament theology, published in 1971; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Rev. Nicholson served on the Illinois State Human |
| 14 |
| Relations Commission and the Coalition for Good Government |
| 15 |
| Church Involvement Committee; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, During his 1983 campaign for mayor of East St. |
| 17 |
| Louis, he organized a new political party called "Recovery" |
| 18 |
| with a platform advocating casino gambling; his vision for |
| 19 |
| "Recovery", was aimed to provide a major tourist attraction for |
| 20 |
| economic development that would create jobs and generate |
| 21 |
| revenue for the city; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, Rev. Nicholson was a member of Theta Alpha Epsilon |
| 23 |
| Honor Society at American Baptist College; he received a Merit |
| 24 |
| Award for Devotion to the Principles of the Equality of Man |
| 25 |
| from the Illinois-Wisconsin States Association-I.B.P.O.E.W. |
| 26 |
| and the Man of the Year Award from the Pro-8 Club; and
|
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, He has been a member of Truelight Baptist Church |
| 28 |
| since childhood and has been pastor since 1956; and
