| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to recognize |
| 3 |
| significant milestones in the lives of the people of this |
| 4 |
| State; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Grace Mae |
| 6 |
| (White) Harrell is celebrating the 100th anniversary of her |
| 7 |
| birth; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Harrell was born on June 16, 1906, to Louella |
| 9 |
| Mae and Ira Edward White in Haines Township, Marion County; she |
| 10 |
| is the second of 17 children; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, She worked in factories all her life, starting at |
| 12 |
| about age 14; she worked in the Sexton garment factory in Salem |
| 13 |
| and later at the dress factory in Salem; she finally went to |
| 14 |
| work in the shoe factory, where she retired at the age of 65; |
| 15 |
| and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Grace married Orin (Ted) Harrell, and they lived |
| 17 |
| in Odin their entire married life; Ted died in 1983, and Mrs. |
| 18 |
| Harrell continued to reside in Odin until 2002, when she moved |
| 19 |
| to Great Oaks Boarding Home in Salem; she is a member of the |
| 20 |
| Odin Methodist Church and attended regularly until she went to |
| 21 |
| the boarding home; and |
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, In her younger days, Mrs. Harrell loved to sew, |
| 23 |
| quilt, crochet, and do embroidery work and was an excellent |
| 24 |
| cook; she and Ted especially enjoyed attending dances together; |
| 25 |
| and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, She can recite long poems and has a wonderful |
| 27 |
| sense of humor; when the weather is nice, Mrs. Harrell enjoys |
| 28 |
| walking around outside of the boarding home; she is a |
| 29 |
| thoughtful, considerate person with a good sense of humor and |
