| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Reyneisha Sharp |
| 4 |
| on being named the Youth of the Year for the State of Illinois |
| 5 |
| by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA); and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Miss Sharp is an eight-year member of the Boys & |
| 7 |
| Girls Club of Alton; in addition to winning this prestigious |
| 8 |
| title, she will also receive $5,000 from the Illinois Alliance |
| 9 |
| of Boys & Girls Clubs and a $1,000 scholarship from the |
| 10 |
| Reader's Digest Foundation; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The Youth of the Year program, which has been |
| 12 |
| nationally sponsored by the Reader's Digest Foundation for 59 |
| 13 |
| years, recognizes outstanding contributions to a member's |
| 14 |
| family, school, community, and Boys & Girls Club, as well as |
| 15 |
| personal challenges and obstacles overcome; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, By being an active member in her Club, Miss Sharp |
| 17 |
| was chosen to represent the Club in leadership and |
| 18 |
| entrepreneurial conferences, in which she lectured on topics |
| 19 |
| concerning youth; she is a member of the Keystone Club, a teen |
| 20 |
| group that practices leadership through learning and community |
| 21 |
| service, and she participates in all core programs at the Club; |
| 22 |
| she also volunteers with the Clubs' homework assistance |
| 23 |
| program, which led to her being hired as program assistant in |
| 24 |
| the social and recreational area; her involvement with the Club |
| 25 |
| has deemed her a leader and role model to other youth; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, She attends Alton High School and participates in |
| 27 |
| many extracurricular activities, including the Lewis and Clark |
| 28 |
| Community College Upward Bound program, track, basketball, and |
| 29 |
| tennis; she has volunteered at nursing homes, participated in |
| 30 |
| community clean-ups in elderly communities, school zones, and |
| 31 |
| impoverished neighborhoods, and tutored fourth grade |
