| WHEREAS, State Representatives Monique D. Davis, together |
| 3 |
| with the House of Representatives, is please to recognize Jet |
| 4 |
| Magazine for its commitment to bringing national recognition to |
| 5 |
| the obesity problem, especially among African-Americans; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, African-Americans are more susceptible to medical |
| 7 |
| conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart |
| 8 |
| disease, and other illnesses which can be strongly linked to |
| 9 |
| diet, obesity, and lack of exercise; studies show that lack of |
| 10 |
| exercise combined with a diet high in fat and sugar during |
| 11 |
| childhood can increase the risks of developing those same |
| 12 |
| health problems even earlier in life; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, In order to bring attention to these things and to |
| 14 |
| motivate African-Americans to take charge of their health, Jet |
| 15 |
| Magazine is sponsoring Club Jet's Family Health and Fitness |
| 16 |
| Affair on July 8, 2006, at Washington Park; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The Family Health and Fitness Affair will include |
| 18 |
| live entertainment, group workouts, health and wellness |
| 19 |
| workshops by medical professionals, sponsor exhibits, and |
| 20 |
| demonstrations to educate visitors on the benefits of daily |
| 21 |
| exercise and healthy eating habits that are vital to maintain |
| 22 |
| and improve well-being; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, This free public affair is planned to be a |
| 24 |
| motivation to families to practice daily routine exercises and |
| 25 |
| healthy eating habits; there will be workshops targeted at |
| 26 |
| adults, teens and children, and senior citizens; therefore, be |
| 27 |
| it
