| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to recognize |
| 3 |
| significant milestones in the lives of the people of this |
| 4 |
| State; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Estella Smith of |
| 6 |
| Chicago is celebrating the 100th anniversary of her birth; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was born on July 31, 1906, in |
| 8 |
| Donaldsonville, Georgia, and raised in Apalachicola, Florida; |
| 9 |
| and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, She later moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where |
| 11 |
| she met and married Eugene Smith, a Pullman Porter who resided |
| 12 |
| in Chicago; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith is the proud mother of three children, |
| 14 |
| Mary Ella, Richard, and Edward, whom she stayed home to raise; |
| 15 |
| while they were growing up, she participated in their school |
| 16 |
| and church activities; she has been a faithful member of |
| 17 |
| Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church since 1941; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Because of her sweet and loving personality, she |
| 19 |
| has become a second mom to many of her children's friends, |
| 20 |
| including the late Mayor Harold Washington, with whom she had a |
| 21 |
| very special relationship; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith is the grandmother of six, Gregory, |
| 23 |
| Tracye, Sharon, Ryan, Michael, and Dionne, and the |
| 24 |
| great-grandmother of four, Hasani, Jelani, Clayton, and Donna; |
| 25 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
