HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to recognize significant milestones in the lives of the people of this State; and

WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Virginia Clementine McCutchen Harris of Oak Park is celebrating the 90th anniversary of her birth; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Clementine McCutchen was born on August 7, 1916, at Englewood Hospital in Chicago to Clifford John Edward and Lulu Mae Wilson McCutchen; the family resided on Chicago's South Side for a time, and then traveled around the country while Clifford worked as a contract painter and decorator; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Harris completed her education at McKinley High School in Chicago and went to work for various places, including Andes Candies and the Simmons Bedding Company located in the Merchandise Mart in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, In 1941, she married William Harris in Skokie; five children were born to the couple: Sandra, Gail, Susan, Mary, and Billy; the family moved to Oak Park in 1950, and Virginia has continued to live in the house on North Lombard Avenue ever since; she is the proud grandmother of eleven and great-grandmother of two; and

WHEREAS, She was active in a number of civic groups including the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; while in the Boy Scout organization, she achieved the rank of Silver Beaver, and she and Bill were recognized by the Scouts with a Presidential award; it is believed that they were the first couple in the Acorn district to receive this recognition; she also participated in activities at the Women's Exchange in Oak Park and continues to serve as an election judge; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Harris attends Judson Baptist Church in Oak Park and has been a nursery attendant there for more than 50 years; she also works for Oak Park School District 97 as a cook at Whittier Elementary School, where she has been for approximately 30 years; and

WHEREAS, She has many hobbies, but enjoys needlecrafts the most; she continues to meet with a group of women who make crafts for many groups, including the church; she enjoys her family and cooks Sunday dinners for up to 15 of them each week; and

WHEREAS, In honor of her 90th birthday, a celebration is planned for Saturday, August 5, 2006; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Virginia Clementine McCutchen Harris on the occasion of her 90th birthday, and we extend to her our sincere best wishes for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Harris as an expression of our respect and esteem.
