| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Horace |
| 4 |
| William "Horty" Romine, the former mayor of Atwood, on |
| 5 |
| Thursday, November 24, 2005; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Romine and his wife, Phyllis, moved to Atwood |
| 7 |
| in 1962; three years later, he was elected to the village |
| 8 |
| board; in 1967, he was elected to his first four-year term as |
| 9 |
| mayor; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He ran again for mayor in 1975 and served for two |
| 11 |
| terms; he returned to office in 1987, and he ran unopposed for |
| 12 |
| re-election in 2003; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Romine went to bat for the Atwood community by |
| 14 |
| securing grants to supply funds for village improvements; he |
| 15 |
| was responsible for completing public works projects at minimum |
| 16 |
| costs; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Romine was active in Democratic Party politics |
| 18 |
| and had the respect and admiration of fellow Democrats and |
| 19 |
| Republicans alike; he was a longtime precinct committeeman and |
| 20 |
| served as the chairman of the Piatt County Democratic Party; |
| 21 |
| and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Horty Romine left a deep void in |
| 23 |
| the hearts and minds of his family members and throughout the |
| 24 |
| Atwood community; he will be long remembered for his devotion |
| 25 |
| to Atwood; therefore, be it
|
| 26 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 27 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 28 |
| we mourn the passing of Horace William "Horty" Romine, and we |
| 29 |
| extend our deepest sympathy to his family, his friends, and all |
