HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Don E. Peacock of Mt. Vernon on July 27, 2006, after a valiant battle against cancer; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Peacock was born on August 29, 1939, in Jefferson County to Henry Harrison Peacock and Beatrice Fern (Hughey) Peacock; and

WHEREAS, He was the owner and operator of Peacock Printing in Mt. Vernon from 1977 to 2001; he served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in Korea during peace time; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church, the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis (past president and past district lieutenant governor Southern Illinois), the Sweet Corn and Watermelon Festival, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce (Commission Citizen of the Year in 2000 and Small Business Man of the Year in 1990), the Jefferson County Historical Society, the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge, the Eagles Lodge, the Moose Lodge, the AMVETS, the VFW, and the American Legion; and

WHEREAS, During his valiant battle with cancer, Mr. Peacock served as the Grand Marshall of the Jefferson County Relay for Life on June 2-3, 2006, at Veterans Park; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Peacock had served on the boards of the Jefferson County Epilepsy Foundation, St. Mary's Home Health, and the Jefferson County Crime Stoppers; he was an Honorary Member of the Mt. Vernon Jaycees and active in the Southern Illinois Employee Relations Association Greater Egypt Planning Commission, the Jefferson County Relay for Life, the YMCA of Jefferson County, Big Brother Big Sisters, Jefferson County Toys for Kids, Minority Affairs and Human Relations, and the American Cancer Society - Road to Recovery; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Don E. Peacock has been deeply felt by many, especially his sons, Michael Lee Peacock and wife Karen, Mark Alan Peacock and wife Ann, Jeffrey Dean Peacock, and Donald Gene Peacock and wife Catherine; his stepdaughters, Jamie Ann Longmire and husband John and Carrie Jewell Smith and husband Mark; his grandchildren, Kristy Williams, Rebecca Michelle Marquis, Lori Peacock, Leslie Peacock, Daniel Fortman, Amie, Taylor, Ian, Anna, and William Peacock, Trevor, Alec, and Rita Groh, Jonathan and Zachary Longmire, and Lacy and Grant Smith; his great-grandchildren, Gabriel Daniels, Hunter Braden, and Malik Groh; and his many nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Wanda Cocker; and his brother, Larry Peacock; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Don E. Peacock, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
