| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Ms. Cheryle |
| 4 |
| Jackson on being appointed President and CEO of the Chicago |
| 5 |
| Urban League; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The appointment makes her the first woman to lead |
| 7 |
| the social and civil justice organization in its 90-year |
| 8 |
| history; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Prior to the appointment, Ms. Jackson was the |
| 10 |
| deputy chief of staff for communications for Governor Rod |
| 11 |
| Blagojevich, overseeing the State's press operations and |
| 12 |
| communications strategy; when she joined the Governor's staff |
| 13 |
| in 2003 as communications director and chief press secretary, |
| 14 |
| she became the first woman and first African American in |
| 15 |
| Illinois history to hold that position; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson's appointment will be celebrated |
| 17 |
| October 12, 2006 at a VIP reception in her honor during "The |
| 18 |
| Pocketbook Monologues Presents A Fundraiser for the Let's |
| 19 |
| Talk-Let's Test Foundation", hosted by NBC5's Marion Brooks; |
| 20 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 22 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 23 |
| we congratulate Ms. Cheryle Jackson on being appointed |
| 24 |
| President and CEO of the Chicago Urban League, and we wish her |
| 25 |
| well in her work at the Chicago Urban League; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 27 |
| presented to Ms. Jackson as an expression of our respect and |

| esteem.
