| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate the College of |
| 4 |
| Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES) |
| 5 |
| Alumni Association on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary; |
| 6 |
| and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Following World War II, the need to recruit more |
| 8 |
| students into the College of Agriculture provided the incentive |
| 9 |
| to formally organize a viable alumni association; faculty |
| 10 |
| member John Behrens invited all extension farm advisors and |
| 11 |
| vocational agriculture instructors in Illinois to attend an |
| 12 |
| organizational meeting to discuss the formation of an alumni |
| 13 |
| association; by June of 1956, the "University of Illinois |
| 14 |
| College of Agriculture Alumni Association" was chartered as a |
| 15 |
| non-profit corporation and a constitution and by-laws were |
| 16 |
| drawn up; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The University's Department of Home Economics |
| 18 |
| became the School of Human Resources and Family Studies (SHRFS) |
| 19 |
| in 1974, and the SHRFS Alumni Association became official on |
| 20 |
| November 9, 1974; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, With the merger and reorganization of the College |
| 22 |
| of Agriculture and SHRFS in 1997, the College of Agricultural, |
| 23 |
| Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES) was created, and |
| 24 |
| the two former alumni associations merged to support the new |
| 25 |
| college; the mission of the ACES Alumni Association is to |
| 26 |
| enhance, support, and communicate the mission of the College |
| 27 |
| and to provide and foster lifelong connections among alumni and |
| 28 |
| between the college and its alumni; and
|
| 29 |
| WHEREAS, Since their inception, the ACES Alumni |
| 30 |
| Association and its predecessors have worked to advance each |
| 31 |
| organization's respective college; endowments for |
