| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate the Reverend Stan |
| 4 |
| J. Sloan on being a recipient of the 2006 Human Relations Award |
| 5 |
| given by the Chicago Commission on Human Relations; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend Sloan serves as the Chief Executive |
| 7 |
| Officer of Chicago House and Social Service Agency; Chicago |
| 8 |
| House, the Midwest's first provider of housing and support |
| 9 |
| services to Chicagoans affected by HIV/AIDS, is in its 21st |
| 10 |
| year of service; he began with Chicago House in 2000 and has |
| 11 |
| served as CEO for a quarter of the agency's existence; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Under his leadership, Chicago House has regained |
| 13 |
| financial stability and has built up reserves desperately |
| 14 |
| needed to assure consistency in service delivery; the agency |
| 15 |
| has expanded in both services offered and clients served; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend Sloan, an Episcopal priest with the |
| 17 |
| Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, has been a leader in the homeless |
| 18 |
| and AIDS service communities for over ten years; in June of |
| 19 |
| 2005, he was elected by other homeless service providers to |
| 20 |
| serve as the Chair of the Board of the Partnership to End |
| 21 |
| Homelessness, the city's collaborative body of service |
| 22 |
| providers; as Chair, he works with organizations and government |
| 23 |
| entities at the local, State, and federal level on issues |
| 24 |
| facing the 90 homeless agencies it represents; in addition, he |
| 25 |
| recently served on the Governing Board of the Chicago Continuum |
| 26 |
| of Care, where he chaired the Government Relations Committee |
| 27 |
| for the City of Chicago's 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness; he |
| 28 |
| serves as a Co-Chair of the Board of the Chicago Housing for |
| 29 |
| Health Partnership and is a former board member of the Illinois |
| 30 |
| Chapter of the ACLU; and
