HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, Good Samaritan Hospital, established in October 
3
of 1976, is a member of Advocate Healthcare, the largest 
4
healthcare provider in Chicagoland; Good Samaritan is a 
5
faith-based, non-for-profit hospital with over 18,000 
6
admissions each year; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, This year is the 30th anniversary of Good 
8
Samaritan Hospital; their dedicated staff  continue to provide 
9
the best in care for people of Downers Grove and the 
10
surrounding communities; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Good Samaritan employs approximately 2,300 
12
employees and is located in Downers Grove, Illinois; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Highlights in Good Samaritan Hospital's history 
14
include: in 1978 the Cardiac Cath Lab opened; in
1980 Good 
15
Samaritan becomes the first hospital in the United States to 
16
provide pastoral care in the emergency room and allow fathers 
17
in
during C- Section birth; open heart surgery is performed for 
18
the first time in 1986; the Neonatal Program is started in

19
1986; in 1994 Governor Jim Edgar has open heart surgery; the 
20
hospital received Level I Trauma Center designation
in 1995 and 
21
Level III Perinatal designation
in 1999; and

 
22
    WHEREAS, The Health & Wellness Center and the Lemont Campus 
23
opened in 2000; in 2001 the  Hospital celebrated its 25th 
24
anniversary and the Cancer Care Center opened; in
2005 the new 
25
Critical Care facility & Tomotherapy opened; and in
2006 new 
26
Surgery Facility construction began; and

    WHEREAS, Good Samaritan Hospital has been recognized by the 
28
Institute for Healthcare Improvement in the Cardiac Alert 
29
Program, being one of only 24 hospitals internationally 
30
recognized; the hospital was recognized as being in the top

five percent in the nation by the American Heart Association 
2
for the "Get with the Guidelines" Coronary Artery Disease 
3
program; and
 
4
    WHEREAS, Good Samaritan Hospital has received a top five 
5
percent in the nation for Clinical Excellence by the National 
6
Rating Firm; the  hospital's complication ratio (actual vs. 
7
expected) of 0.76 in 2005 is the second lowest in Chicagoland; 
8
and their open heart surgery mortality was 0.4% in 2005 and 
9
1.2% in 2006; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11
NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12
we congratulate the physicians, associates, and staff of Good 
13
Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove on the occasion of the 
14
hospital's 30th anniversary; and be it further

 
15
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16
presented to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospital.
