HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of  
3
Representatives wish to congratulate Representative Calvin 
4
Giles of Chicago on his service to the people of his 
5
legislative district and our State; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Representative Giles has been a member of the 
7
Illinois House since 1993 and has served this body with honor 
8
and distinction; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Throughout his legislative career, Representative 
10
Giles has been a champion for those ignored or neglected by 
11
society; he has worked diligently to further the cause of 
12
equality and justice for all people; first and foremost, he has 
13
fought tirelessly for the best interests of his constituents 
14
and the communities he serves; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, He is the Chairperson of the Elementary and 
16
Secondary Education Committee and a member of the committees on 
17
Telecommunications, Financial Institutions, and Tourism and 
18
Conventions; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, Representative Giles has many accomplishments of 
20
which to be proud, among them: 37th Ward Legislator of the 
21
Year; Volunteer Service Award, presented by REAC Center; 
22
Outstanding Volunteer Award in the struggle to prevent child 
23
abuse, presented by Pre-T.E.C; and appreciation awards from 
24
Chicago State University and the Chicago Teachers Union; and
 
25
    WHEREAS, Representative Giles earned his B.A. in 
26
Management and Finance from Northeastern Illinois University; 
27
in addition to his responsibilities as a legislator, he also 
28
works as a well respected landscape designer; and
 
29
    WHEREAS, Prior to serving in the General Assembly,

Representative Giles public service included work as an 
2
Administrative Assistant to 37th Ward Alderman and 
3
Committeeman Percy Giles of Chicago; previously, he worked as 
4
an electrical cardiogram technician, an experience that helped 
5
to shape his understanding of the need for legislators to take 
6
an active role in increasing health care access for the 
7
millions of Illinois citizens who lack insurance; therefore, be 
8
it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10
NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11
we wish Representative Giles all the best in his future  
12
endeavors and congratulate him on a job well done in the 
13
General Assembly; and be it further

 
14
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to Representative Giles, his wife and their daughter 
16
as an expression of our esteem and respect for our colleague 
17
and friend.
