AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 157

    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 157, AS AMENDED, 
3
with reference to page and line numbers of House Amendment No. 
4
1, on page 3, between lines 12 and 13, by inserting the 
5
following:

    "(c) The report shall include a description of the 
7
methodology used in the collection of the data and an analysis 
8
regarding the effect of employment and health coverage on the 
9
assistance programs provided by the State. The Department shall 
10
include available data regarding: the numbers of employees and 
11
dependents of employees; the identity of employers by type of 
12
industry and by public, private, profit, or non-profit status; 
13
the employees' full-time or part-time status; and other 
14
variables that the Department determines essential."; and

 
15
on page 3, line 13, by changing "(c)" to "(d)"; and


 
16
on page 3, line 18, by changing "(d)" to "(e)"; and

 
17
on page 4, line 2, after "be", by replacing "designed or used 
18
to" with "designed or, except as provided in this Law, used 
19
to"; and 

 
20
on page 8, by replacing lines 12 and 13 with the following: 
21
    ""Death" means patient death related to an adverse event 
22
and not related solely to the natural course of the patient's

illness or underlying condition.  Events otherwise reportable 
2
under this Section 10-15 shall be reported even if the death 
3
might have otherwise occurred as the natural course of the 
4
patient's illness or underlying condition."; and

on page 8, by replacing lines 14 through 16 with the following:  
6
    ""Serious disability" means a physical or mental 
7
impairment, including loss of a body part, related to an 
8
adverse event and not related solely to the natural course of 
9
the patient's illness or underlying condition, that 
10
substantially limits one or more of the major life"; and 
 
11
on page 9, line 24, after "errors or", by inserting ", except 
12
to enforce this Law,"; and 
 
13
on page 11, by replacing lines 14 through 16 with the 
14
following: 
15
            (ii) Summarizes, in aggregate form, the corrective 
16
        action plans and findings of root cause analyses 
17
        submitted by health care facilities."; and 
 
18
on page 11, line 32, after "Committee", by replacing "shall, 
19
when possible, make" with "shall review the Department's"; and 
 
20
on page 12, line 2, after "standards.", by replacing "Prior to 
21
adoption of any" with "In connection with its review of the 
22
Department's"; and  
 
23
on page 12, line 23, by replacing "must address problems" with 
24
"must substantially address the problems".
