| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Orr of Perry passed away on May 14, |
| 3 |
| 2005; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Orr was born August 7, 1920, in Chambersburg, |
| 5 |
| the daughter of the late Clarence Thomas and Miriam Dennis |
| 6 |
| Browning; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, She married Ralph J. Orr on August 7, 1938, in |
| 8 |
| Chambersburg; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, She was a 1938 graduate of Chambersburg High |
| 10 |
| School in Chambersburg; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, She farmed alongside her husband northwest of |
| 12 |
| Perry for many years; she also aided her husband in the running |
| 13 |
| of their farm machinery business in Perry; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Orr, along with her husband and |
| 15 |
| father-in-law, Ralph Orr, were former owners of land which |
| 16 |
| became the University of Illinois Orr Research Center; she was |
| 17 |
| currently serving in her 20th consecutive year as Trustee of |
| 18 |
| John Wood Community College, as well as serving several years |
| 19 |
| on the John Wood Ag Committee; she also served on the board of |
| 20 |
| directors of the Farmer's & Traders State Bank in Meredosia; |
| 21 |
| and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, She was an active elder in the Perry Presbyterian |
| 23 |
| Church and was an elder in the Fairmount Presbyterian Church |
| 24 |
| until it closed; she was commissioner to the Presbytery of |
| 25 |
| Great Rivers and also taught the adult class of the |
| 26 |
| Presbyterian Sunday School; and
|
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, She was a member of the Pittsfield O.E.S., Pike |
| 28 |
| County Country Couples, Fairmount Home Extension, Women's Club |
|

| of Pike County, and the Ladies Guild of the Perry Presbyterian |
| 2 |
| Church; she was very active in the Perry community and was the |
| 3 |
| 1998 Perry Pioneer Day Honored Citizen; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, She traveled extensively worldwide and was an avid |
| 5 |
| reader; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, her |
| 7 |
| husband, her daughter, Kay Ellen Orr, and her |
| 8 |
| great-granddaughter, Ashley Fencik; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mary Ellen Orr is felt by all who |
| 10 |
| knew and loved her, especially her daughter, Patricia Gail |
| 11 |
| Emerson and husband Richard; her sons, David Jeffrey Orr and |
| 12 |
| wife Janet, John Michael Orr and wife Kay, and Roger Alan Orr |
| 13 |
| and wife Kathi; her special granddaughter, Cindy Orr Moore and |
| 14 |
| husband Douglas; her 10 additional grandchildren; her 4 |
| 15 |
| step-grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren and 5 |
| 16 |
| step-great-grandchildren; her 3 great-great grandchildren; her |
| 17 |
| special friend and companion, Elmer Bradbury; her sister, Sarah |
| 18 |
| Harriet Brooks; her brothers, Clarence John Browning and wife |
| 19 |
| Shirley and David Harvey Browning; and her several nieces, |
| 20 |
| nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
| 22 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 23 |
| Mary Ellen Orr and extend our sincerest condolences to her |
| 24 |
| family, friends, and community; and be it further
|
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 26 |
| presented to her family as an expression of our deepest |
| 27 |
| sympathy.
