| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The people of Berwyn and neighboring |
| 3 |
| municipalities are entitled to high-quality education and the |
| 4 |
| most economically efficient public school system possible; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The structure, boundaries, and missions of the |
| 6 |
| school districts in Berwyn, with two elementary school |
| 7 |
| districts (Nos. 98 and 100) and one high school district (No. |
| 8 |
| 201), were created more than 100 years ago; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Changing times and demographics may warrant a |
| 10 |
| fresh look at the education needs of the people of Berwyn; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, School districts' organization plays a role in an |
| 12 |
| education system's overall efficiency, accountability, and |
| 13 |
| quality of education; therefore, be it
|
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
| 15 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the Senate applauds and |
| 16 |
| encourages the vision and initiative of Mayor Michael O'Connor |
| 17 |
| of Berwyn in calling for a region-wide dialogue on the benefits |
| 18 |
| and drawbacks of school district reorganization; and be it |
| 19 |
| further
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That such dialogue should include all of the |
| 21 |
| constituencies related to public education in Berwyn, |
| 22 |
| including parents, students, school administrators, school |
| 23 |
| board members, front-line teachers, representatives of the |
| 24 |
| collective bargaining units, taxpayer organizations, and other |
| 25 |
| elected officials, and should take place during the coming |
| 26 |
| school year with the goal of ensuring strong public schools for |
| 27 |
| all the people of Berwyn; and be it further |
| 28 |
| RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to |
| 29 |
| the mayor of Berwyn and to the superintendents of elementary |
