| WHEREAS, Judge Robert A. Cox of Winfield, formerly of Glen |
3 |
| Ellyn, died May 11, 2005; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Judge Cox was born in Chicago and graduated from |
5 |
| Steinmetz High School; he attended Carthage College in |
6 |
| Wisconsin before transferring to Valparaiso University in |
7 |
| Indiana, where he completed a bachelor's degree, and later |
8 |
| received a law degree in 1958; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, After law school, he worked for two years as an |
10 |
| adjuster for State Farm Insurance Co. in Maywood; he began his |
11 |
| legal career as the village attorney for Bloomingdale, a |
12 |
| position he held for several years; in 1968, he began a private |
13 |
| practice in Glen Ellyn, Cox & Lyle, with Delbert Lyle; in 1976, |
14 |
| Judge Cox was appointed to the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in |
15 |
| DuPage County, where he served until his retirement in 1992; |
16 |
| and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, He served as the presiding judge for the Domestic |
18 |
| Relations Division for four years and initiated mandatory |
19 |
| collection of child support through the clerk's office, two |
20 |
| years before it became a State requirement; he also started a |
21 |
| mandatory conciliation program in cases involving child |
22 |
| custody; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, He was a no-nonsense type judge who took everyone |
24 |
| and everything into consideration; he ran a tight ship and |
25 |
| people respected him for that; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, After retiring from the bench, he started a |
27 |
| private practice in Wheaton, specializing in divorce, child |
28 |
| custody, and mediation; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, A Winfield resident since 1992, he was a member of |
