| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Barbara Johnson; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on September 16, 1934, to Noah and |
| 5 |
| Leeretta Kyles of Kosciusko, Mississippi; she attended |
| 6 |
| Christian Liberty Baptist Church in Kosciusko as a child; she |
| 7 |
| went on to join Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, where she |
| 8 |
| was an active member until illness prevented her from attending |
| 9 |
| regularly; she was especially proud of the scholarship program |
| 10 |
| that she founded for college-bound students; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, When she was growing up, she was an avid |
| 12 |
| basketball player; she was a twirling majorette in the school |
| 13 |
| band and held the record of being one of the best majorettes in |
| 14 |
| the history of the school; and |
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson retired from the Social Security |
| 16 |
| Administration after 20 years of service; her colleagues |
| 17 |
| remember most the way that she greeted her clients with a |
| 18 |
| genuine desire to help them; she always wore a smile and |
| 19 |
| laughter was always present when she met new people; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Barbara Johnson has been deeply |
| 21 |
| felt by many, especially her husband, LeRoy; her daughters, |
| 22 |
| Deborah D. Harper (Ronald) and Patricia A. Turner (Michael); |
| 23 |
| her son, Andre D. Johnson; her grandchildren, Keturah Harper |
| 24 |
| Sline (Jason), Naaman B. Harper, Amiel B. Harper, Michael |
| 25 |
| Turner II, Myron Turner, Mario Turner, and Andre D. Johnson |
| 26 |
| Jr.; her five great-grandchildren; a special son, Steven Dancy; |
| 27 |
| her sisters, Virginia Winters, Beatrice K. Moore (Leo), and |
| 28 |
| Sarah Kyles; her brothers, Walter G. Kyles (Marilyn) and James |
| 29 |
| T. Kyles (Theresa); her sister-in-law, Fronnie Kyles; her |
| 30 |
| brother-in-law, Ralph Woullard; and her many nieces, nephews, |
