| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Carolyn Gloria Hunter |
4 |
| Moody; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody was born October 3, 1921, in Meridian, |
6 |
| Mississippi, to James Washington Hunter and Esther Evans |
7 |
| Hunter; she attended Talladega and Hunter Colleges and earned a |
8 |
| bachelor's degree froth Tougaloo College with a major in |
9 |
| sociology and minors in music and history; her M.A. in |
10 |
| elementary education, plus 30 hours above, was earned at |
11 |
| Southern University with additional studies at LSU; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, In 1948, she and Horace W. Moody married in |
13 |
| Ruston, Louisiana, and moved to Baton Rouge, where she became a |
14 |
| member of her husband's family church, Bethel AME; prior to her |
15 |
| marriage, she had been an active member of First Congregational |
16 |
| Church of Meridian, Mississippi, from an early age; throughout |
17 |
| the years she was actively involved at both churches in many |
18 |
| capacities, including as a Sunday school teacher, music |
19 |
| director, cherubim choir director, youth advisor, organist and |
20 |
| pianist, chancel choir member, vacation Bible school |
21 |
| coordinator, and president of the Orah N. Evans Women's |
22 |
| Missionary Society; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody led with distinction for nearly sixty |
24 |
| years in the numerous social and civic organizations in which |
25 |
| she participated; she was a golden member of the Gamma Eta |
26 |
| Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a member of |
27 |
| The Matrons Club, and the Southern University Chapter of Phi |
28 |
| Delta Kappa International, where in 2000, she was awarded the |
29 |
| National Service Key Award for 25 years of service; she was |
30 |
| also a member of the Board of Directors of the Audubon Girl |
31 |
| Scout Council and the YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge and served as |
32 |
| strategic advisor to the J.K. Haynes Elementary Charter School; |
