SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Dr. Curzio Paesani of Peoria Heights on November 23, 2005; he practiced dentistry for 48 years in Peoria and retired in 1998; and

WHEREAS, He was born on September 21, 1922, in Vallerano, Italy, to Giuseppe and Angelina Loser Paesani; he grew up in Coalton, Illinois, before moving to Peoria; he married Dorothy Anne Keel on October 10, 1953, in Clarksville, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, He was a World War II Marine veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre, where he served as 1st Lieutenant in the 5th and 2nd Division for 37 months; and

WHEREAS, A graduate of Nokomis Township High School, he attended Carthage College; he was a graduate of Northwestern University, where he earned his bachelor's degree; he attended University of Illinois graduate school, earning a degree in engineering; he earned his dental degree from Loyola in 1950; he was a member of Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, He was also a member of the Peoria Vocation Group, the Country Club of Peoria, a member and general chairman for the State meeting for the Illinois State Dental Society, a past president and member of the Peoria District Dental Society, and a member of the Illinois State Dental Society, having served on the Executive Council for six years; he also served on the Council of Dental Education and Commission on Dental Accreditation with the American Dental Association; the Dental Assisting National Board, where he served as Chairman; and he was co-founder of Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting at I.C.C.; and

WHEREAS, He established a modern dental clinic at a mission in Tiacoachistlahuaca, Mexico, sponsored by Holy Family Church; he was a volunteer at the city and county dental clinic that served Heartland and Mother Krasse patients; and

WHEREAS, He authored a book on the history of dentistry in Peoria called "Open Wide This Won't Hurt"; he also was a member of the International College of Dentistry, L.D. Pankey Study Club, and St. Thomas Catholic Church, where he formerly served on the Parish Council; he was a former member of the OSF St. Francis Foundation Board; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Curzio Paesani is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Dorothy; his sons, Patrick Paesani and Michael Paesani; his daughter, Lisa Paesani (Dr. Dave) Dexter; his brothers, Dr. Peter (Neva) Paesani and Gene (Adele) Paesani; and his eight grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. Curzio Paesani and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
