| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Nina Henkhaus Klinke of |
| 4 |
| Bethalto, formerly of East Alton, on January 3, 2006; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on September 16, 1914, in East Alton |
| 6 |
| to William H. and Bertha (Ufert) Koehne; she married Kenneth |
| 7 |
| Henkhaus on July 22, 1939, in Alton; he preceded her in death |
| 8 |
| on August 21, 1950; she married Harold P. Klinke on August 30, |
| 9 |
| 1980; he preceded her in death in March 1994; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Klinke was formerly employed with the Madison |
| 11 |
| County judicial system as the administrator of the Jury |
| 12 |
| Commission; she was a Wood River Township clerk for 16 years |
| 13 |
| and was a licensed court reporter and key punch and tabulation |
| 14 |
| statistician; she was the first woman to be elected as a |
| 15 |
| Democratic precinct committeeman and was the first woman to |
| 16 |
| serve on the Madison County Democratic Committee executive |
| 17 |
| board; she served as secretary of the Wood River Democratic |
| 18 |
| Committeeman organization for 20 years; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Klinke was the co-founder of the Bethalto |
| 20 |
| Woman's Club, where she served as past president and secretary |
| 21 |
| of the club; she was involved with the Madison County |
| 22 |
| Federation of Women's Clubs, serving as treasurer for two |
| 23 |
| years, and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella; she was |
| 24 |
| appointed by the governor to serve for four years as secretary |
| 25 |
| of the Southwest Exposition Authority at Southern Illinois |
| 26 |
| University Edwardsville to research the feasibility of |
| 27 |
| erecting the Vadalabene Building; she also served as past |
| 28 |
| president of the Epsilon Chapter and Delta Theta Tau Sorority; |
| 29 |
| and
|
| 30 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Nina Henkhaus Klinke is felt by all |
| 31 |
| who knew and loved her, especially her sons and |
