| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Ennis Thomas Lightford on |
| 4 |
| Thursday, January 12, 2006; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in Huntsville, Alabama, on May 12, |
| 6 |
| 1922, to Will and Maime Lee Lightford; he valiantly served his |
| 7 |
| country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II; he |
| 8 |
| achieved the rank of Sergeant and received three medals, the |
| 9 |
| APTO Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II |
| 10 |
| Victory Medal; he was honorably discharged in 1946; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He married Delia B. Fitcheard on May 12, 1943; she |
| 12 |
| preceded him in death; they moved to Chicago in the late 1940s; |
| 13 |
| he worked in construction as a plasterer; he helped to build |
| 14 |
| Sears Tower and MacNeal Hospital; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, His niece, State Senator Kimberly Lightford, |
| 16 |
| remembers her fifth birthday, just two days before his |
| 17 |
| birthday, when the family gathered at her Uncle Ennis' house |
| 18 |
| for her birthday party; she spilled the beans by informing |
| 19 |
| Uncle Ennis that there was a cake in the trunk of the car for |
| 20 |
| him; the family constantly reminds her of that birthday |
| 21 |
| surprise; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, He was the last surviving great uncle and was |
| 23 |
| always dapper and ever so kind; he especially enjoyed fishing, |
| 24 |
| hunting, and gardening; and
|
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Ennis was a devoted family man and his passing |
| 26 |
| has been deeply felt by many, especially his children, |
| 27 |
| Josephine Robinson (Dinismore Sr.), Lee Lightford (Marian), |
| 28 |
| and Virgil Blevins (Kathleen); his grandchildren, Michelle |
| 29 |
| Lightford (Kenny), Nathan Blevins Sr. (April), Joyce R. Ward, |
| 30 |
| and Dinismore Robinson, Jr. (Veronica); his |
