SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Gerald "Jerry" Sinclair of Salem on January 28, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sinclair was born September 17, 1932, in Central City to Jesse A. and Thelma (Parmely) Sinclair; he married Ellen Moore in 1950 in Odin; and

WHEREAS, He was the former president of Salem National Bank and was the Marion County Democratic Chairman; he also was former Illinois political director of the Paul Simon for President Campaign and served as an administrative assistant of Illinois operations to former U.S. Senator Paul Simon; his relationship with Senator Simon began when they formed a young Democrat organization that supported a successful dark horse candidate for governor; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sinclair was a member of the Illinois Housing Authority and was on the board of directors of the Southern Illinois Health Care Foundation; he held memberships in the Salem Country Club, the Salem Moose Lodge, and the Salem Elks Club; he was honored as a 50-year member of the Odin Masonic Lodge, along with having served in many community positions and activities throughout his professional career; and

WHEREAS, He is remembered as a man of boundless energy with a love for politics and a willingness to help countless people; he is credited with luring World Color Press and North American Lighting to Salem, helping many local companies get started, and developing one of the original student loan programs at the former Salem National Bank that helped so many residents go to college; and

WHEREAS, Jerry's passing has been deeply felt by many, especially his mother, Thelma Sinclair Deadmond; his son, Richard Sinclair; his daughters, Tari Henne and husband Steve and Lea Filson and husband Ronald; his brother, George Sinclair and wife Alice; his sisters, Shirley McHaney and husband Lon, Marilyn Sugg and husband Marvin, and Lorna Fisher and husband Billy Joe; his grandchildren, Beth Grohmann and husband Brad, Jana Zipfel and husband Zac, Kristin Henne, Andrew Jerald Sinclair, and Ryan Lee Sinclair; and his great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by his father; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Gerald "Jerry" Sinclair, whose impact on Illinois politics and business will long be remembered, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
