SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death Miles Rex Brueckner of Alton on February 14, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Born on May 8, 1929, in Nokomis, Miles Brueckner was the son of Henry and Hilda (Miles) Brueckner; he married Shirley "Sally" Betts on March 19, 1950; and

WHEREAS, After his high school graduation, he served four years with the U.S. Marine Corps, reaching the rank of staff sergeant; he spent two years in the South Pacific during the Korean War and worked for eight years at Duncan Foundry as a lab technician and a caster, followed by 14 years in sales with International Correspondence Schools; he developed and directed the school's Industrial Training Division until I.C.S. disbanded the field sales force; he then spent 19 years with the Aid Association for Lutherans as a fraternal insurance counselor and million dollar producer, retiring in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Brueckner owned and operated an electronic medical claims filing and billing service for physicians; he was a co-founder of Migratory Waterfowl Hunters Inc., the largest public land duck hunting organization in Illinois; he also co-founded the Illinois Federation for Outdoor Resources, which represents more than 30,000 members in Illinois; he served as the I.F.O.R. membership secretary and was a member of the Illinois Conservation Congress executive committee; he was an avid waterfowl hunter his entire adult life and was a life member of the VFW Post 1308; he helped found and was a charter member of the Faith Lutheran Church and School of Godfrey; as a dedicated and faithful member, he was active on the church council, having held many offices, including past president; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Miles Rex Brueckner has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Shirley Brueckner; his daughter, Susan Barbary; his son, David Brueckner and his wife, Brenda; his grandchildren, Jamie Baugh, Joshua Barbary, Jeremy Barbary, Mathew Brueckner and his wife, Leah, Kristen Brueckner, and Bradley Brueckner; his great-granddaughter, Madelyn Marie Brueckner; his half-brother, Ray Brueckner; his sister-in-law, Nancy Snell; his brother-in-law, James Betts; and several nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joann Jungk; and his half-brothers, Larry Snell and Roy Brueckner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Miles Rex Brueckner, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincere condolences.
