SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Adolph Paytes of Chicago, who passed away on March 26, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Adolph Paytes was born on April 3, 1936 to Alonzo Lawson Paytes, Sr. and Irma Atkins Paytes; he was joined in marriage on July 17, 1960, to his wife of forty-six years, Leona Simmons; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Paytes was educated in Chicago public schools, where he excelled as an honor student; he graduated from both Shoop Elementary School and Morgan Park High School; during his high school career, he was a star football player who was lovingly known as "The Great T99"; and he graduated from Roosevelt University with degrees in business administration and accounting; and

WHEREAS, He was employed by the Chicago Transit Authority; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Paytes was baptized as a child at Arnett African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he participated in many of the church's activities; later, he became active at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church and, until his death, he was a dedicated member of Christ Universal Temple; he was a proud life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity in the Theta Mu Lambda Chapter; and

WHEREAS, Aldoph Paytes and his wife, Leona, traveled extensively; they enjoyed an annual trip to Cancun Mexico together and made many trips to their vacation home in Union Pier, Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Paytes was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Alonzo Lawson, Jr. and James Thadeus, and his sister, Joan McDuffie; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Adolph Paytes will be felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Leona Simmons Paytes; his sisters-in-law, Gertrude Paytes, Eva Paytes, Joyce Wolfe, and Beverly (John) Willis; his brothers-in-law, Harry (Carrie) Simmons and Terry (Jenean) Simmons; his nephews, Antonio (Jacqueline) Paytes, Rodney Paytes, Steven (Cheryl) Wolfe, Michael (Terri) Simmons, Chad (Carole) Simmons, and Terrence Simmons; his nieces, Michelle (Calvin) Thompson, Carmelle Paytes, Sharon Hinton, Tanya (Glenn) Harris, and Kelli Johnson; his great-nephews, Anthony and Bryce Paytes; his cousins, Delores Rose and JoAnn Barnes; his many grand-nieces and nephews; and his many friends, associates, and fraternity brothers; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with all who knew and loved him, the death of Adolph Paytes; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Adolph Paytes.
