| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express |
| 3 |
| their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Russell |
| 4 |
| Oxford of Johnston City, who passed away on Monday, September |
| 5 |
| 25, 2006; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on August 11, 1933, in Cave In Rock to |
| 7 |
| Gilbert and Cora (Ralph) Oxford; he was united in marriage to |
| 8 |
| the former Jackie Moake on June 23, 1953, in Marion; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He served as Williamson County Sheriff from 1970 |
| 10 |
| to 1978 and again from 1989 to 1994, holding the job longer |
| 11 |
| than any other sheriff; he owned Oxford's Furniture Store of |
| 12 |
| Johnston City and also was involved in Oxford Trucking; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Despite his numerous work commitments, he always |
| 14 |
| found time to spend with his family, enjoying many gatherings |
| 15 |
| with his grandchildren; he also enjoyed spending time horseback |
| 16 |
| riding and trail riding; he was a member of Whiteash Freewall |
| 17 |
| Baptist Church, Williamson County Shrine Club, and Lake Creek |
| 18 |
| Masonic Lodge 729; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Russell Oxford has been deeply felt |
| 20 |
| by many, especially his wife, Jackie; his sons and their |
| 21 |
| families, Michael and Joyce Blades, Keith and Linda Oxford, and |
| 22 |
| James and Stephanie Oxford; his grandchildren, Lisa Odum and |
| 23 |
| husband, Zach, Melissa Blades, Heather Oxford, Justin Oxford, |
| 24 |
| Russell Casey Oxford, and Abbey Oxford; his step-grandhildren, |
| 25 |
| Siera Elkin and Grant Elkin; his brothers and sister-in-law, |
| 26 |
| Harry and Jane Oxford and David Oxford; his sisters and |
| 27 |
| brothers-in-law, Wanda Cash, Alma and Harold Gross, and Betty |
| 28 |
| and Ed Cash; his nieces and nephews; and other extended family |
| 29 |
| and many friends; he was preceded in death by his parents; his |
| 30 |
| grandson, Michael Travis Blades; his granddaughter, Emily Rose |
| 31 |
| Oxford; and three brothers, Winford, Kenny, and Al Oxford; |
