| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express |
| 3 |
| their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Nettie |
| 4 |
| Frances Smith, who passed away on August 21, 2006; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Nettie Smith was born on May 27, 1941, in |
| 6 |
| Birmingham, Alabama; She was the Chairman Emeritus and retired |
| 7 |
| President/CEO of The Robbins Insurance Agency, Inc., the oldest |
| 8 |
| African American insurance agency in Chicago; she was |
| 9 |
| considered a pioneer in the insurance industry; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, She attended Chicago Teachers College; she was a |
| 11 |
| member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Urban League, |
| 12 |
| the Chicago Board of Underwriters, the Professional Insurance |
| 13 |
| Agents of Illinois, and the Summerlin Women's Association; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, She was the treasurer and a faithful member of the |
| 15 |
| Lakes Lutheran Church of Las Vegas; she was formerly a member |
| 16 |
| of Liberty Baptist Church of Chicago for over 40 years; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Nettie Frances Smith is survived by her husband, |
| 18 |
| Lewis P. Smith; her daughters, Derian King and Dr. Lauren |
| 19 |
| Smith; her son-law, Dr. D'waine Bobo; her granddaughters, Slena |
| 20 |
| King and Kendall Bobo; she is also survived by her brothers, |
| 21 |
| Bennie Hardy and John Hardy, and her sisters, Mildred Mitchell |
| 22 |
| and Juanita Hargrave; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
| 24 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 25 |
| Nettie Smith; and be it further
|
| 26 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 27 |
| presented to the family of Nettie Smith.
