| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of Phillip Hiller of Evanston, Illinois, who |
| 4 |
| passed away on July 16, 2006; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller was a native of Racine, Wisconsin; |
| 6 |
| and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller received his degree in biology from |
| 8 |
| the University of Wisconsin at Madison; he later earned a |
| 9 |
| Master's degree in education from Northeastern Illinois |
| 10 |
| University; he taught biology at Lutheran South High School in |
| 11 |
| Chicago for three years; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Before moving to Evanston he was a Peace Corps |
| 13 |
| volunteer in Greece and the Philippines, where he met his wife; |
| 14 |
| and |
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller was an Evanston Township High |
| 16 |
| School biology teacher for 34 years; he is fondly remembered by |
| 17 |
| his former students; many of his students began careers in |
| 18 |
| science because of his influence; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller retired from teaching four years |
| 20 |
| ago and traveled to Spain, Australia, Costa Rica, and Africa, |
| 21 |
| collecting data and studying dolphins, koala bears, sea |
| 22 |
| turtles, and cheetahs for the Earthwatch Institute; and |
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, He spent time in his garden and authored a weekly |
| 24 |
| Master Gardener column for the newspaper; he and his wife also |
| 25 |
| volunteered at the Youth Organizations Umbrella in Evanston; |
| 26 |
| and |
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller was the loving husband of Barbara, |
| 28 |
| nee Stoughton; the beloved father of Mark (Zhen Fan), Claire |
