SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Phillip Hiller of Evanston, Illinois, who passed away on July 16, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller was a native of Racine, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller received his degree in biology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison; he later earned a Master's degree in education from Northeastern Illinois University; he taught biology at Lutheran South High School in Chicago for three years; and

WHEREAS, Before moving to Evanston he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Greece and the Philippines, where he met his wife; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller was an Evanston Township High School biology teacher for 34 years; he is fondly remembered by his former students; many of his students began careers in science because of his influence; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller retired from teaching four years ago and traveled to Spain, Australia, Costa Rica, and Africa, collecting data and studying dolphins, koala bears, sea turtles, and cheetahs for the Earthwatch Institute; and

WHEREAS, He spent time in his garden and authored a weekly Master Gardener column for the newspaper; he and his wife also volunteered at the Youth Organizations Umbrella in Evanston; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Hiller was the loving husband of Barbara, nee Stoughton; the beloved father of Mark (Zhen Fan), Claire (Scott Smith), Megan (Nathan Greene), and Paul; the cherished grandfather of Caitlin, Hailey, Laila, Maeve, and Alex; the dear brother of James (Barbara) Hiller, and Linda (Donald) Hicks; the fond uncle of Amanda, Kevin, Matthew, Andrew, and Sean; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Phillip Hiller; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Phillip Hiller.
