| AN ACT concerning transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 |
| Section 3-611.5 as follows:
|

| Sec. 3-611.5. Fire departments and fire chiefs. |
| 8 |
| (a) Upon receipt of a request from a municipality or fire |
| 9 |
| protection district that operates a fire department, |
| 10 |
| accompanied by the appropriate application and fee, the |
| 11 |
| Secretary of State shall issue to the municipality or fire |
| 12 |
| protection district plates as described in this Section. These |
| 13 |
| plates shall be issued only for vehicles owned by the fire |
| 14 |
| department or owned by a chief officer of the fire department |
| 15 |
| if the chief officer is authorized by the corporate authorities |
| 16 |
| of the municipality or fire protection district to use the |
| 17 |
| vehicle as an emergency response vehicle. |
| 18 |
| (b) There shall appear, in addition to the designation of |
| 19 |
| the State and the year for which the license plate was issued, |
| 20 |
| the letters FD displayed vertically on the left side of the |
| 21 |
| plate, followed by the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System Division |
| 22 |
| number of the fire department and the radio signature number of |
| 23 |
| the vehicle, followed in the next line by the words "Fire |
