Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code.
Provides for the issuance
of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome license plates. Provides that in addition to the
appropriate registration fees, an applicant for the special plate shall
be charged an original issuance fee of $45 and a fee of $32 for each renewal.
Provides that the additional original issuance fee and the
renewal fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 3-664 as follows: |
6 |
| (625 ILCS 5/3-664 new)
|

| Sec. 3-664. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome license plates. |
8 |
| (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in |
9 |
| the form
prescribed by the Secretary, may issue special |
10 |
| registration plates designated
as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome |
11 |
| license plates. The special plates issued under this Section
|
12 |
| shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first |
13 |
| division and motor
vehicles of the second division weighing not |
14 |
| more than 8,000 pounds. Plates
issued under this Section shall |
15 |
| expire according to the multi-year procedure
established by |
16 |
| Section 3-414.1 of this Code. |
17 |
| (b) The design and color of the plates is wholly within the |
18 |
| discretion of
the Secretary. The
Secretary may allow the plates |
19 |
| to be issued as vanity or personalized
plates under Section |
20 |
| 3-405.1 of the Code. The Secretary shall prescribe stickers or
|
21 |
| decals as provided under Section 3-412 of this Code.

| (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a |
23 |
| $45 fee for
original issuance in addition to the appropriate |
