| AN ACT concerning autism.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Mental Health and Developmental |
| 5 |
| Disabilities Administrative Act is amended by adding Section |
| 6 |
| 57.6 as follows: |
| 7 |

| Sec. 57.6. Adult autism; funding for services. Subject to |
| 9 |
| appropriations, the Department, or independent contractual |
| 10 |
| consultants engaged by the Department, shall research possible |
| 11 |
| funding streams for the development and implementation of |
| 12 |
| services for adults with autism spectrum disorders without |
| 13 |
| mental retardation. Independent consultants must have |
| 14 |
| expertise in Medicaid services and alternative federal and |
| 15 |
| State funding mechanisms. The research may include, but need |
| 16 |
| not be limited to, research of a Medicaid state plan amendment, |
| 17 |
| a Section 1915(c) home and community based waiver, a Section |
| 18 |
| 1115 research and demonstration waiver, vocational |
| 19 |
| rehabilitation funding, mental health block grants, and other |
| 20 |
| appropriate funding sources. The Department shall report the |
| 21 |
| results of the research and its recommendations to the Governor |
| 22 |
| and the General Assembly by April 1, 2008.
