August 16, 2007
To the Honorable members of the
Illinois House of Representatives
95th General Assembly
Pursuant to Article IV, Section 9(b) of the Illinois Constitution of 1970, I hereby veto House Bill 1558, entitled “AN ACT concerning revenue.” House Bill 1558 seriously damages the Illinois Department of Revenue’s ability to attack abusive tax avoidance schemes. Compromise legislation that is business-friendly but allows the Illinois Department of Revenue to remain effective in fighting abusive tax schemes is expected to follow shortly.
For this reason, I hereby veto and return House Bill 1558.
Sincerely,
ROD R. BLAGOJEVICH
Governor
