Amends the School Code. Requires the State Board of Education to develop a curriculum for use in middle schools and high schools that (1) educates students on the dangers of gang membership from a legal standpoint, emotional standpoint, and mental health standpoint; (2) offers strategies for leaving a gang if a student has already joined one; (3) includes a component about the legal ramifications of drug dealing; and (4) offers information for those students who need drug treatment.

| AN ACT concerning education.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 |
| 2-3.142 as follows: |

| (105 ILCS 5/2-3.142 new) |
7 |
| Sec. 2-3.142. The State Board of Education shall develop a |
8 |
| curriculum for use in middle schools and high schools that does |
9 |
| all of the following: |
10 |
| (1) Educates students on the dangers of gang membership |
11 |
| from a legal standpoint, emotional standpoint, and mental |
12 |
| health standpoint. |
13 |
| (2) Offers strategies for leaving a gang if a student |
14 |
| has already joined one. |
15 |
| (3) Includes a component about the legal ramifications |
16 |
| of drug dealing. |
17 |
| (4) Offers information for those students who need drug |
18 |
| treatment.
