| AN ACT concerning radon awareness.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by |
| 5 |
| adding Section 120 as follows:
|

| (5 ILCS 490/120 new) |

| Sec. 120. Radon Awareness Month. The month of January is |
| 8 |
| designated as Radon Awareness Month. Radon is the second |
| 9 |
| leading cause of lung cancer in the country. A study of |
| 10 |
| Illinois homes shows that half of all tested homes had unsafe |
| 11 |
| levels of radon. The events and activities of Radon Awareness |
| 12 |
| Month shall focus on increasing public awareness of the health |
| 13 |
| hazards associated with radon exposure.
