    Amends the Election Code. Prohibits county clerks and members of boards of
election commissioners from making public endorsements of candidates and public
questions. Effective immediately.

    AN ACT concerning election officials.

    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section 
5
29-12.5 as
follows:

    (10 ILCS 5/29-12.5 new)

    Sec. 29-12.5. Political endorsements by election 
8
officials. No county clerk
or member of a board of election 
9
commissioners may publicly endorse any
candidate for public 
10
office or any public question, including but not limited
to 
11
print and broadcast endorsements.

    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
13
becoming law.
