AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2233

    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2233 by replacing

everything after the enacting clause with the following:

    "Section 5. The School Code is amended  by adding Section 
5
2-3.142 as follows:

    (105 ILCS 5/2-3.142  new)
7
    Sec. 2-3.142. Exemplary Teacher Grant Program. Subject to 
8
appropriation, the State Board of Education shall create the 
9
Exemplary Teacher Grant Program under which 25 grants in the 
10
amount of $2,000 each shall annually be awarded to selected 
11
teachers. A grant recipient shall use the grant for his or her 
12
classroom in any reasonable way that he or she sees fit for the 
13
purpose of further educating his or her students.

    Each school district may nominate one teacher for receipt 
15
of a grant under the Program each year. The State Board of 
16
Education shall create the grant nomination application and

shall establish the criteria for receipt of a grant. The State 
2
Teacher Certification Board shall select the 25 grant 
3
recipients from among the nominations.".
