Amends the Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act. Provides that all food pantries shall register with the State-certified local public health department having jurisdiction in the area where the food pantry is located. Effective January 1, 2009.

| AN ACT concerning health.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act is |
5 |
| amended by adding Section 3.2 as follows: |
6 |
| (410 ILCS 625/3.2 new) |
7 |
| Sec. 3.2. Food pantries. In this Section, "food pantry" |
8 |
| means a public or private non-profit organization that |
9 |
| distributes food to persons or families at no cost to relieve |
10 |
| situations of emergency or distress. All food pantries shall |
11 |
| register with the State-certified local public health |
12 |
| department having jurisdiction in the area where the food |
13 |
| pantry is located.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January |
15 |
| 1, 2009.
