SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 		













720 ILCS 5/24-1.5-1 new










    Amends the Criminal Code of 1961.   Creates the offense of negligent discharge of a firearm.  Defines the offense as discharging a
firearm in
a negligent manner which endangers the bodily safety
of an individual.  Provides that the offense is a Class A misdemeanor.  Exempts from a violation a peace officer while in the performance of his or her official duties.

    AN ACT concerning criminal law.

    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended  by adding 
5
Section 24-1.5-1 as follows:

    (720 ILCS 5/24-1.5-1  new)

    Sec. 24-1.5-1. Negligent discharge of a firearm.

    (a) A person commits negligent discharge of a firearm by 
9
discharging a
firearm in
a negligent manner which endangers the 
10
bodily safety
of an individual.

    (b)  Sentence.  Negligent discharge of a firearm is a Class A 
12
misdemeanor.

    (c)  This Section does not apply to a peace officer while in 
14
the performance
of his or her official duties.
