HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS,    The North Central Province Chapters of Kappa Alpha
 
3
Psi Fraternity, Inc. are sponsoring their first annual 
4
legislative
visit to the Illinois State Capitol; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., was founded in

6
1911 on the campus of Indiana University by African-American

7
college men; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is an 
9
international
organization with over 200,000 undergraduate and 
10
alumni
members; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is an 
12
organization committed to promoting honorable achievement in 
13
every field of human endeavor; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi members who have distinguished

15
themselves individually include Johnny Cochran, Jr., Reginald 
16
Lewis, Bill Russell, Gale Sayers, Ralph Abernathy, Tavis 
17
Smiley, Percy Sutton, William Johnson, John Singelton, Cedric 
18
the Entertainer, Thomas Bradley, John Conyers, Louis Stokes, 
19
Oscar Robertson, Arthur Ashe, General Daniel "Chappie" James, 
20
Wilt Chamberlin, Sanford Bishop, Walter Fauntroy, and Montell 
21
Jordan; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 
3
SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that, in recognition of the 
4
achievements of
the members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., 
5
and the values
for which they strive, proclaim Wednesday, April 
6
18, 2007, as
the First Annual Kappa Alpha Psi Day in the State 
7
of
Illinois; and be it further

 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

9
presented to Stevenson Nicholson, North Central Polemarch of 
10
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
