| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois wish to honor John Mezera on reaching the |
| 4 |
| milestone of 20 years as city manager for Joliet; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He began work as a civil engineer for Joliet in |
| 6 |
| 1976 having just finished his time with the Army Corp of |
| 7 |
| Engineers; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He held the positions of director of public works |
| 9 |
| and commissioner of public service, becoming city manager in |
| 10 |
| 1987, lending stability to a position that was known for its |
| 11 |
| high turnover rate with eight city managers from 1955 to 1987; |
| 12 |
| he was the first city manager to be given a multi-year contract |
| 13 |
| when he started; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He has played a major role in the city's |
| 15 |
| renaissance, which shows no signs of stopping as more downtown |
| 16 |
| development is planned with upscale restaurants, shopping |
| 17 |
| centers, and high-end homes; therefore, be it
|
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, |

| congratulate John Mezera on his achievement of 20 years as city |
| 21 |
| manager of Joliet and we thank him for his helping revitalize |
