| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to recognize the Danville Symphony |
| 4 |
| Orchestra on its 40th anniversary year; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Harry and Gail Adams conceived the idea that |
| 6 |
| Danville needed a symphony orchestra in 1967; Mary Miller, |
| 7 |
| President of Danville Junior College, was enlisted to support |
| 8 |
| the formation of the orchestra and to ensure that college |
| 9 |
| credit was received by the members for their participation; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, The Danville Junior College Symphony Orchestra |
| 11 |
| made its debut in December of 1967; there were two concerts |
| 12 |
| that season with 53 players; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Danville Junior College provided rehearsal space, |
| 14 |
| music stands, a set of timpani, and a bassoon; by 1969 |
| 15 |
| financial support was coming from the City of Danville, the |
| 16 |
| Music Performance Trust Fund of the American Federation of |
| 17 |
| Musicians, the Illinois Arts Council, the National Endowment |
| 18 |
| for the Arts, Danville Junior College, and generous local |
| 19 |
| donors; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, The Danville Symphony Orchestra Board of |
| 21 |
| Directors was established in 1970; the Viennese Ball became an |
