HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to honor the Decatur Family YMCA on 
4
the occasion of the association's 130th anniversary; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, The YMCA was organized in Decatur in March of 
6
1877; since it's founding the Decatur YMCA has kept pace with 
7
the needs of a growing community; in 1877, Decatur's population 
8
was 8,800, and when it grew to 28,000 in 1907 the first "Y" 
9
building was erected; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, During the past 130 years, the YMCA has been one 
11
of Decatur and Macon County's leading non-profit, community 
12
service organizations; a progressive, volunteer driven 
13
association, the YMCA has been serving the Decatur community 
14
through programs based on Christian principles and the YMCA 
15
core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility; 
16
and

 
17
    WHEREAS, The YMCA works to enhance and provide programs 
18
that build strong kids, strong families, and strong 
19
communities; through programs such as health and fitness, 
20
sports, summer camp, aquatics, childcare, and many more it is 
21
easy for anyone to connect to the YMCA; and

    WHEREAS, The YMCA is more than just a fitness facility, it 
2
exists to inspire the kind of people who care about the world 
3
and each other, who have a firm sense of worth, who foster 
4
understanding and respect, who accept responsibility for their 
5
own lives and are committed to helping improve the lives of 
6
others; the YMCA truly provides a sense of belonging, a feeling 
7
of trust, a celebration of diversity, and a mission of service; 
8
and

    WHEREAS, The mission of the YMCA is to put Christian 
10
principles into practice through programs that build healthy 
11
spirit, mind, and body for all; therefore, be it

 
12
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
14
recognize the milestone 130th anniversary of the Decatur Family 
15
YMCA and congratulate the staff on reaching this important 
16
point in history; and be it further

 
17
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to the Decatur Family YMCA Executive Director Paul 
19
Stanzione as a symbol of our respect.
