HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Michael L. Klein, Senior Field Representative with the AFL-CIO, on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Michael Klein received his education from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, with Economics and Philosophy as a double minor; and

WHEREAS, Michael Klein has spent more than fifty years working with the labor movement, first with the United Auto Workers (UAW) and then with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO); he has worked across the country, from Washington, D.C., to California, promoting and aiding the labor movement; and

WHEREAS, Michael Klein has had a long and colorful career, including working with Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers, United States Senator from Illinois Dick Durbin, Governor Rod Blagojevich, California Governor Gray Davis, and New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine; and

WHEREAS, Michael Klein was a senior labor representative with over fifty years in the labor movement; he has experience in labor and management relations, legislative and political action, membership education, staff training, and community and public relations; he is a motivational leader with a proven ability to train and mentor young union activists; and he is adept in developing, building, and maintaining key community partners and alliances; and

WHEREAS, Michael Klein's last position with the AFL-CIO before his retirement was his appointment in the Fall of 2005 as Senior Field Representative; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Michael L. Klein on a job well done and wish him nothing but the best for his future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Michael L. Klein as a symbol of our respect.
